Laboratory’s offer is addressed to economic operators involved in the production of innovative polymer materials and their processing, mainly aviation industry and companies that work for aerospace structures in the meaning of application and design of various constructive and usable products made of synthetic materials.

The Laboratory also conducts research that can be used to characterize the current products made by polymeric materials industry, especially companies producing goods to the markets of the EU or planning to acquire these markets. Its structure consists of three workshops:

  • Laboratory of Composite Materials
  • Laboratory of Polymer Materials
  • Laboratory of Auxetics

The laboratory is provided with:

  • Apparatus to evaluate the flame resistance of polymer materials – method UL 94;
  • Microcalorimeter cone – to determine the rate of heat release and the weight loss during combustion of the samples of plastics;
  • Rheometer oscillating-rotating – to study the process of cross-linking of thermoactive polymers with method of measuring the properties of viscoelastic during oscillation of the measuring cell;
  • Extruded line for a preparation of polymer blends and receive auxetic fibers which includes :
    • twin screw extruder with a capacity of up to 10kg / h;
    • head with 2 holes;
    • head to the veins with a maximum operating temperature for the 400° C;
    • Pellet.
  • Instrument for measuring the thermal conductivity of polymeric materials;
  • Testing machine with automatic identification and calibration of an electronic extensometer equipped with non-contact measuring bi-directional extension – measuring the longitudinal strain in the range of 0-500 mm, transverse strain in the range of 0-27 mm;
  • Microscope to assess the porosity of the materials;
  • Fume cupboard slot.

Performed research:

  • Determination of flame resistance of polymers and polymer composites method UL 94 and by a conical microcalorimeter:
    • the ability to measure heat release rate ( HRR ) ;
    • the total heat of combustion ( THR );
    • time to ignition of the sample ( TTI );
    • sample weight change and rate of change of sample weight ( MLR ).
  • Rheological molten thermoplastic polymers – marking the viscoelastic properties of polymers:
    • modules loss and stiffness ;
    • apparent viscosity;
    • complex viscosity.
  • Rheological and the characteristics of the cross-linking of polymers chemosetting :
    • epoxy resins;
    • unsaturated polyesters ;
    • polyurethanes;
    • phenolics.
  • The possibility of preparing small batches of raw blends of polymers with different additives: fillers , other polymers , modifiers like. Extrusion mixing ( compounding );
  • The possibility of manufacturing a series of short polymer fibers extruded through the head of spunbonded with the possibility of their orientation by means of take-off rolls .

Moreover, the Laboratory can perform tests such as:

  • determination of the characteristics of strength during stretching, bending and compression ( the maximum force of 30 kN);
  • measurement of thermal conductivity of polymer composites in the form of tiles of small dimensions of the order of 10-20 mm in the temperature range 20-250 ° C;
  • measurement of surface resistivity and / or cross- polymers or polymer composites.
